Skylights

The Solar Powered “Fresh Air” Skylight (available for both deck and curb mount installations) features a solar panel that captures available daylight and uses it to recharge a highly efficient, fully concealed battery powered operator and control system. This operator is the power source that opens and closes the skylight, negating the need for electrical wiring during installation.

Sun Tunnel Skylights are a cost-effective way to add natural light to areas that need a brighter, more vibrant appearance. Their low-profile design creates a sleek appearance on any roofline, and their pre-fabricated light tunnel makes them quick and easy to install. Not to mention, they come with a 20-year tunnel warranty.

Manual “Fresh Air” Skylights are designed for both deck and curb mount installations. The VELUX Manual “Fresh Air” skylight enables any home to embrace the best of what nature has to offer. Opening for maximum fresh air, this venting skylight contributes to a home’s proper moisture balance and comfort level by allowing stale, humid air to be released.

Electric “Fresh Air” Skylights are designed for both deck and curb mount installations. The VELUX Electric “Fresh Air” skylight is the perfect daylighting solution for overhead applications. It allows for abundant natural light, and with the touch of a button, opens to let in fresh air. If you forget to close it, a rain sensor will shut the skylight during inclement weather.

Fixed Skylights are perfect for visually expanding areas such as hallways, stairwells, and other closed-in, dark spaces that can be transformed with light and sky views. They provide an economical choice in creating a spacious home that is filled with natural light.

Also known as solar daylighting tubes, Sun Tunnels are a system of tube-shaped pipes that capture and disperse sunlight to different parts of your home.

Types of Sun Tunnels

Sun Tunnels consist of either a polycarbonate dome or flat glass roof application. Each type comes in multiple flashing options, to ensure a leak-free fit to your roof.

  • Pitched Metal Dome – for pitched roofs
  • Low-Profile Dome – a more discrete look, ideal for south, west, and east-facing roofs
  • Curb Metal Dome – for low roofs and tile roofs
  • Low-Profile Flat Glass – seamlessly blends with your roof, great for south-facing souths or when HOA or local ordinances prevent you from having a dome

VELUX Sun Tunnels are available in either 10″ or 14″ diameters.

Sun Tunnel Tubes

Depending on the setup of your roof and attic, you will choose between rigid and flexible Sun Tunnel tubes. If you have unobstructed access to your attic and a clear line between your roof and ceiling, rigid tubing is the way to go. For tight attic spaces or working around HVAC systems, you’ll want flexible tubing.

To maximize enjoyment of your new Sun Tunnel, consider pairing it with some of VELUX’s accessories. Enhance the look of your Sun Tunnel with one of VELUX’s six decorative diffusers. Continue to light your space even after the sun has gone down with VELUX’s Solar Night Light. With the help of a solar panel that collects daylight during the day, the Solar Night Light can illuminate any space using powerful LED lights. Or take it up a notch with VELUX’s Electric Light Kit, which uses electricity to provide artificial light when natural light isn’t available.

Skylight FAQ

Do skylights leak?

No! VELUX skylights are engineered with three layers of water protection and backed by an industry-leading 10-year installation warranty that promises the skylights you put in your home will not leak.

How strong are they?

VELUX Skylights are available in three different glass types: Laminated Glass, Impact Glass (best for areas prone to large storms) and Snowload Glass (best for areas with heavy snow accumulation).

Will they make my home hotter?

VELUX Skylights were made with energy efficiency in mind. That’s why they are Energy Star-certified in all 50 states. You can also use Skylight shades for further climate control.

Skylight Installation

VELUX Skylights are available either deck-mounted, which are mounted directly to your roof deck and have a low profile, or curb-mounted, where the skylight is mounted to a curb or frame, typically made of 2 x 4s. You can either install the skylights yourself, or hire a professional installer. If you decide to install it yourself, be sure to install them with VELUX flashing to ensure warranty coverage.

Skylight Maintenance

Most skylights require very little maintenance. Periodically washing them to remove debris on the exterior and spot cleaning the glass and frame on the interior can help keep your skylight in top shape for years to come.

Roof Windows

Put fresh air at your fingertips with a top hinged VELUX roof window. A top hinged roof window is easy to operate – even with furniture beneath. The innovative top control bar allows you to install the window lower than an equivalent bottom-operated window to get an excellent view while standing and when seated.

We recommend top hinged windows if you are placing your window in a low position, for instance: in rooms with a low ceiling or where you’d like a better view of the surroundings below.
